California-based consumer electronics firm Vizio has just made what could be the world's most expensive television set, as of the moment. This high-end, 120-inch monster called the “Reference Series” is now available at price equivalent to that of a BMW or almost six Camrys.

The sticker shock comes to $129,999 or AU$181,783.73. CNET said potential buyers that want to save on money can instead purchase the device's 65-inch variant at only $5,999 or AU$8,388.68. This massive 4K TV that is the Reference Series can be ordered on Vizio's official website. The company will ship the TV by the end of this year.

This new Vizio TV was introduced to the public at the CES showcase last year. Despite being unveiled a year ago, however, the TV was never shipped to the tech market. At the time, Vizio was marketing the 65-inch version at only $4,000 or AU$5,593.39. Vizio apparently realized they were about to ship a device that was priced $2,000 lower than what it should have been.

Although Vizio's new television set sports the biggest screen for a TV so far, it’s not the only feature that’s made it one of the most expensive -- if not the most expensive. It also happens to be the very first TV to support Dolby Vision HDR, which isn’t the same as HDR for photography.

Dolby Vision HDR gives a much better picture quality primarily because of brighter and more realistic highlights and colours. It’s believed HDR Video is the next big step from 4K that only addresses picture sharpness and resolution and isn’t concerned with colour and contrast at all.

Vizio is also working with Dolby and will soon offer the very first Dolby Vision movies through the Vudu streaming service. The films that will be part of this package are "Man of Steel", "The Lego Movie" and "Edge of Tomorrow".
