With “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” coming to consoles and PC next week, Hideo Kojima and Konami have decided to unveil one final trailer to hype up the game’s release. The trailer is a fairly nostalgic one for fans and maybe even Kojima, as it takes a look at the previous games in the “Metal Gear Solid” series before cutting back to “The Phantom Pain.”

As many fans know, this will be the last “Metal Gear Solid” game that Hideo Kojima will ever work on. Recent reports have shown that the creator’s relationship with Konami has deteriorated drastically. The struggle with Konami also resulted in the cancellation of the highly anticipated “Silent Hills” game he was supposed to work on with Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus.

Kojima leaving Konami has been one of the industry’s worst-kept secrets, especially since his name was removed from the game’s cover art, according to IGN. Konami has stated that there would be more “Metal Gear Solid” games in the future, even if Hideo Kojima will no longer be part of any of them.

Making things a bit worse is the fact that Kojima Productions had to shut down, according to Eurogamer. Kojima Productions was a sister company of Konami and its shutdown made things worse between the two parties.

While Kojima may have left the company on bad terms, the game itself has been doing remarkably well with critics. Most of the reviews so far have given the game perfect scores, praising the gameplay and the new open-world aspect of the game.

The future remains unknown for Kojima, though the longtime game designer has stated that he would continue creating games in the future. Speaking of the future, Konami has stated that it would be focusing on making mobile games from now on, much like what Square Enix is doing.

“Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” will be available on Sept. 1 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. The game was originally going to come to the PC on Sept. 15, but the release date was moved up.
