Gideon Cross is racing for fame against the more popular Christian Grey of E.L. James' erotic trilogy, "Fifty Shades of Grey." Also an erotic fiction hero, Mr Cross first teased the ladies in "Bared To You," the first book in Sylvia Day's "Crossfire" series. Gideon has already been able to steal some fans from Christian. The same Christian Grey candidates, particularly Henry Cavill, are being pegged to play the Cross role. Can Gideon beat Christian in global popularity?

"His bone structure would make a sculptor weep with joy, while a firmly etched mouth, a blade of a nose, and intensely blue eyes made him savagely gorgeous." This is how Gideon's love interest, Eva Trammel, described the sexual force that is Mr Cross.

Sylvia Day, according to many reviewers, is much better in prose than E.L. James. The way Cross is described, for instance, says a lot as to how fans are better able to imagine details about how Gideon looks like.

"Man of Steel" Henry Cavill is a popular choice among Gideon Cross fans, in case a movie outfit gets the rights for Crossfire. Like Christian Grey, Gideon Cross is a billionaire exec in his late 20s. Their manly beauty and gorgeous physique drive women crazy. Being pegged for both roles is a huge compliment from fans to Henry Cavill.

British model David James Gandy is also being pegged for the role of Gideon Cross. There is no word yet from the model's rep whether he could take such a daring project.

Considering the similarities between Christian and Gideon, there is only a few reasons why fans would make a switch. One likely reason is better writing. Personal preference also plays out: which character is sexier and more sensational in what he does? Then again, it comes back to writing.

The third book in Day's series, "Entwined with You" is coming out in June. Don't be surprised if your Facebook or Twitter feed will feature a lot of Gideon Cross in the next couple of months.
