“Hawaii Five-0” Season 7 premiered on Sept. 23, 2016, which highlighted the return of Steve (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) after spending time in the hospital. Jack Lord, the original actor who played the role of Steve, was also brought back to life via CGI.

At the start of “Hawaii Five-0” Season 7, Steve and Danny are fully recovered. Abby (Julie Benz) has officially joined the team and Kamekona (Taylor Wily) is busy expanding his business. Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) is growing closer to his niece Sara, although he was previously planning to put her up for adoption. Keiko Mahoe (Rosalind Chao) is the new governor of Hawaii.

Danny and Steve immediately goes back to work on the first day they exit the hospital. A dead victim and serial killer, Anthony Hane, was left in their office. After finding the primary crime scene, they proceed to a hotel where they discovered four dead tourists. They also found Hanes’ partner dead. Later on, the team chased and cornered the suspect Pierre Shaw, who has excellent parkour skills. Unfortunately, Shaw falls to his death while trying to escape them. They thought that the case was closed until Steve found another clue from the murderer in his own home – a chess piece.

TVLine noted that while recovering, Steve met an ex-cop in the hospital chapel. The show producers used CGI to bring Jack Lord back to life, who played the role of the former cop. Steve and Jack talked about love and the latter gave him powerful advice on the best legacy that a man could leave behind. It was a very emotional scene that would certainly be felt by fans of the original “Hawaii Five-0.”

Showrunner Peter M. Lenkov said that he wrote the idea of re-introducing Jack Lord a few years ago as the last scene of the “Hawaii Five-0” series. However, he realized that the show will continue further than he initially anticipated and wanted to bring Lord back before anyone else did. They used a voice actor, a body stand-in who looked like Jack Lord, a real actor and CG work to feature the character. Alex worked with the real actor during the scene and they added the voice afterwards. They finally placed the CG over the body double’s face.
