From Harry Potter to United Nations, Emma Watson has taken a giant leap in her professional career. The 24-year-old actress, famous for her role as Hermoine in the magical Harry Potter series, has been appointed as the new Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations' gender equality arm, UN Women. Emma expressed her excitement about the new role on her Twitter account.

"Going to be working for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and The Empowerment of Women (!!!)," Watson wrote announcing the news on Twitter.

"So excited to start work with the AMAZING people at UN Women!," Watson added.

The beauty with brains is a recent graduate of the Ivy League institution - Brown University and her new boss will be Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, who is the under-secretary-general and executive director of UN Women, a press release from the United Nations announced.

"We are thrilled and honored to work with Emma, whom we believe embodies the values of UN Women," stated Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director, UN Women.

"The engagement of young people is critical for the advancement of gender equality in the 21st century, and I am convinced that Emma's intellect and passion will enable UN Women's messages to reach the hearts and minds of young people globally," Mlambo-Ngcuka added.

Before her United Nations job, the British actress has been involved in humanitarian works in several countries. She has worked to promote the education of girls for several years in third world countries including Bangladesh and Zambia. Emma called her appointment as Goodwill Ambassador a "humbling" experience and said that she feels attached to doing work for women rights.

"Being asked to serve as UN Women's Goodwill Ambassador is truly humbling. The chance to make a real difference is not an opportunity that everyone is given and is one I have no intention of taking lightly," Emma said in a statement.

"Women's rights are something so inextricably linked with who I am, so deeply personal and rooted in my life that I can't imagine an opportunity more exciting. I still have so much to learn, but as I progress I hope to bring more of my individual knowledge, experience and awareness to this role," she added.
