The “Halo 5: Guardians” Arena Season is on, and it is coming with brand new “Proving Grounds” playlist and balance changes. Players are extremely excited to find out how the new Motion Sensor features work in the “Proving Grounds.” The developer is altering the way the Motion Sensor functions.

According to Halo, this is just a public test of the new Motion Sensor to gather feedback and metrics. This will in turn help in determining if the new Motion Sensor will have a place in “Halo 5” and for future FPS titles going forward. Nothing has changed, except what has been rolled out specifically in the “Proving Grounds” playlist. The Motion Sensor has been a staple in all “Halo” games. Even though it has been criticised by many hardcore competitive multiplayer gamers, 343 Industries hasn’t removed it completely.

Instead, it has changed how it functions and waiting for player feedback. Removing it entirely could result in the gameplay becoming too chaotic. Tracking players and Spartan abilities would become a pain. The new “Halo 5: Guardians” Motion Sensor is a lot simpler than the default system that originally shipped with the game. The two types of player activities that will now appear on the sensor are a non-silenced weapon being fired and a Spartan ability, such as Sprint, Thrust, Spartan Charge, Ground Pound and Stabilise.

The functional range has also been increased to 25 metres from 18 metres. In order to receive complete, unbiased feedback from players, 343 Industries will run this test for at least a month. It will keep the test live as long as it is required. The objective is to have as much data as possible and player feedbacks. Players will find a new playlist added to “Halo 5.” The test on “Proving Grounds” won’t affect the matchmaking offerings directly. The developer will be carrying out a lot of data-mining behind the scenes.

Players can also share feedback directly via a pinned thread in the “Halo 5” forum or directly ask “Halo” multiplayer designer Quinn DelHoyo on Twitter. During internal play tests, experts have already noticed certain behaviour changes in players as they now have the control to choose when to show up on an opponent’s Motion Sensor. This leads to very important tactical decisions. Due to a change in the range, Spartan Abilities, such as Spartan Change, has now become more of an early warning system.

Suppressed weapons are not showing up on sensors, making them more effective, lethal and relevant. The new Motion Sensor has made stealth tactics more viable. Players are also relying less on the sensor and scanning the 3D space more. Stay tuned on IBT AU for more updates on “Halo 5: Guardians” new Motion Sensor.
