A photo scandal is threatening the reign of newly crowned Miss Teen USA 2013 Cassidy Wolf. The 19-year-old graduate of Great Oak High School in Temecula is said to have nude photos which could circulate in the Internet.

Someone claimed to have hacked into the webcam of the beauty queen at her Southern California bedroom several months ago. After her receiving the crown as Miss Teen USA, the hacker attempted to extort more naked photographs from her through an anonymous email.

However, instead of giving in to the demand of the hacker, she reported the extortion to the FBI. Cassidy said she would use her beauty queen status to battle cybercrime.

"Many victims are embarrassed or keep it to themselves. Coming forward is key to stopping the criminal activity," Cassidy said, quoted by Business Insider.

The FBI said they have identified the culprit behind the extortion attempt, but no arrest has been made. The agency said there are more than a dozen victims by the same extortionist from Riverside County, where Temecula is located, and even beyond.

In February, Melissa King, the Miss Delaware in the same pageant, quit the beauty contest because of a porn video controversy.

While Melissa denied she is the woman in the sex tape scandal, Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss Universe organisation which includes Miss Teen USA, advised her to instead step down or face being stripped of her crown.

Reality star Shanna Moalder, the Miss USA 1995 and director of the Nevada pageants, had kinder words for Melissa and other contestants who were scandalised by these controversies.

"I think Melissa resigning is the honorable and right thing to do ... Melissa is not the first girl to have to forfeit her crown and she is also a reminder that pageant girls are not demi gods by real girls who make mistakes and who participate in the system to better themselves. I have seen many pageant girls fall from grace and turn it into something positive. I know Melissa will do the same."
