Whenever you work out in a gym, keep in mind that there are other people in the place who hope to have a good workout, too. Even in such environments, it is important to exercise gym etiquette. You will be much appreciated for your knowledge and practices. Here are five key rules when working out in a gym.

1. Return the dumbbells. Muscle and Fitness reported that you should avoid bringing too many dumbbells to your bench at any time. Ideally, bring two pairs to do supersets or work out near the dumbbell rack so that anyone can have access to the different weights. Hogging the dumbbells will prevent others from using these and give you a selfish impression.

2. Wipe and clean. Bodybuilding.com writes that you should wipe off equipment after use. It is disrespectful to leave your sweat on the bench when another person is about to use it. Wear gloves to prevent sweat from your hands from dripping on dumbbells and barbells.

3. Maintain good hygiene. Even when sweating it out in the gym, you should practice good hygiene. Body odor can be very offensive to others in the gym. Make sure that you smell fresh and look clean while working out.

4. Come on time. According to SparkPeople, you should always arrive a few minutes early for your workout, especially if you have a trainer or workout partner waiting. It is rude and unproductive to arrive late. You also deprive yourself of a good and intense workout if you are constantly running out of time.

5. Avoid talking. Many people do not like being talked to when they are working out. Even if you have a friend or training buddy with you, focus on exercising and save the talk when you leave the gym. You save time and concentrate on effort more when you stop talking.

These simple rules will make your gym a more conducive place to exercise and physically progress. Follow the indicated gym rules too and pay your membership dues on time. Make the gym a fun and great place for everyone by practicing gym etiquette.
