Gwen Stefani shares a “special song” she wrote which hinted at how she felt about her split from former husband Gavin Rossdale.

Stefani debuted her new song titled “Used to Love You” during the MasterCard Priceless Surprises concert held Saturday, Oct. 17, in New York, Us Weekly reported. The “Voice” coach told the crowd that that the song is “really special” and that it was something she wrote recently.

The former “No Doubt” band member’s new song included lyrics such as “"I thought I was the best thing that ever happened to you” and "I guess nobody taught you how to love.” It also had poignant lines such as “I used to know you” and “You go, I’ll stay, you can keep all the memories.” Meanwhile, as Stefani sang her new song, an emotional video of herself nearly in tears played behind her on the stage.

According to E!News, Stefani’s new song is reminiscent of her former band’s 1996 hit single “Don’t Speak” which is about the singer’s break-up with bassist Tony Kanal’s. To date, “Don’t Speak” remains as one of the group’s most successful and emotional tracks, states E!

Last month, Stefani told People magazine that her new music will have an overall theme of “truth” to it. "[It's] just truth," she said. "Just being clear and being true to myself. I just want to be fulfilled. It's really quite selfish.” The singer has written 14 songs so far and jokingly told People that the process is like “getting pregnant with 14 babies all at once."

"Every song that is added to the batch makes it different,” she added. “Every single time I write a song, I think it's my single and it's very dramatic and everyone's like 'Okay, Gwen. Shut up. We know it's not the one, but I'm glad you're excited.'"

Stefani and Rossdale announced their separation in August, after 13 years of marriage. The former couple share three sons together namely Kingston, 9, Zuma, 7, and 19 month old Apollo.
