Director James Gunn has teased the first look of Mantis from his upcoming movie “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” The character does not appear with green skin, as in the comics. In an interview, Executive Producer Jonathan Schwartz talked about the new character in the movie.

[Spoiler alert]

The new concept art of the movie includes all the heroes, starting with Star Lord (Chris Pratt) at the centre. The protagonist is accompanied by Drax (Dave Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff). The heroes are joined by Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Yondu (Michael Rooker).

The fans immediately noticed that Mantis doesn’t have the green skin, the way it is in the comics. Gunn responded to the remarks by explaining that his source for inspiration came from the original iteration of the character in the comics, in which she doesn’t have green skin.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Schwartz teased some details about the character in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” He said that Mantis has never had any social interaction before and she will learn how to deal with people from the “very weird group” of heroes in the movie.

Another notable character in the concept art is that of the young Groot. Talking about the character, Schwartz teased that the young character doesn’t have the “wisdom and experience” of the character seen in the 2014 movie. He described the character as being “ rambunctious.”

On the question of what the fans are seeing in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is the same Groot from the 2014 movie or a new character born out of the seed, the executive producer decided to leave the question open for now. Fans will have to wait till 2017, when the movie releases, to find out for sure.
