“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” director James Gunn recently teased that he has filmed a scene with a major new character. Interacting with the fans, he also spoke about drawing and storyboarding before the filming actually begins.

In a Facebook post, Gunn shared a picture of a drawing he made of three characters who were involved in a scene he shot on Wednesday. The director did not reveal the names of the characters in the crude drawing, but pointed out that at least one of the characters is easily recognisable.

The new character that Gunn was talking about appears to be Mantis. It is not clear who the other two characters are, but the one on the right appears to be Baby Groot (Vin Diesel).

Pom Klementieff will be playing the role of Mantis in the movie. According to the comic books, she was trained by a sect from Kree. The Kree Empire was mentioned in the first movie and the main villain in the movie Ronan (Lee Pace) was from Kree.

It is not clear if Kree will be featured in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” The inclusion of Mantis suggests that there may be at least a mention of the fictitious alien race.

Another new cast member of the movie is Nathan Fillion, best known for his role in TV shows like “Firefly” and “Castle.” The actor is expected to play the role of Wonder Man in the forthcoming movie, Yahoo reports.

Wonder Man, also known as Simon Williams, first appeared in the comics as a desperate industrialist trying hard to save his family business. Unable to compete against Stark Industries and others, he goes down a dark path and eventual becomes a test subject of Baron Zemo.

Although initially Wonder Man works for Baron Zemo; he eventually changes sides and fights for the Avengers. It will be interesting to see if “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” will lay the foundation for an eventual crossover.
