James Gunn recently shared some details about his plans for “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” now that production talks have officially started for the sequel. The director teased an additional character will be introduced in the movie and while he didn’t actually specify who this Marvel character will be, a report claimed it’s probably Death who will make a cameo appearance in the film.

According to Screenrant, James Gunn had said during an interview about “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” that a newcomer will be cast in the sequel. The site claimed the director is “already talking with someone about playing the character he has in mind, a new Guardian, as he labels it.” Gunn didn’t actually specify who this additional character is or how many there will be. Screenrant is guessing there will be two additions, “someone we’ve met and someone we haven’t who he’s talking to now -- even if it’s informal talks at this point.”

A report from Cinema Blend claimed this additional character in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” could be Death. The villain Death is clearly not suited to be a Guardian. However, per writer Adam Holmes there’s still a chance she could be the additional character since James Gunn didn’t exactly say that the person will be part of the team.

Having Death in the sequel would reportedly provide more development and insight into Thanos’ life. It would explore the villain’s history and reveal his true intentions for trying to collect all Infinity Gems and destroy mankind. In the Marvel comics, Thanos has been known to have affection towards Death. The villain thought that by possessing the Infinity Gems and wiping out all of mankind on earth he is pleasing Death.

Death has been alluded to in previous films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the video below showing the post-credit scene for “The Avengers,” Thanos is seen smiling after being told that “to challenge them (humans) is to court Death.” Likewise, Slashfilm noted a character resembling the comic version of Death in the second trailer released for “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” The bald woman seen inside the cave with Thor supposedly looks like Death. According to Holmes, “introducing the object of the Mad Titan’s affections and seeing the two of them together” in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will allow the viewers to “learn more about what his endgame is.”
