In “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13 Episode 13, Dr. April Keper (Sarah Drew) will be in charge as the new head of general surgery. Although she will only be at the top temporarily, there will be expected clashes with several colleagues.

In the previous episode, Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) was suspended. Many are still not pleased about Dr. Eliza Minnick (Marika Dominczyk) and Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) successfully avoiding prison time after Dr. Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) dropped the charges against them.

Spoiler alert! This article contains "Grey’s Anatomy" spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens before the new episode airs.

In the episode synopsis of Season 13 Episode 13 on ABC, titled “It Only Gets Much Worse,” April will struggle on her first day as interim chief of general surgery at Memorial. In the meantime, Dr. Minnick will move on to the next phase of her teaching. However, not everything will proceed according to plan when a number of conflicts surface.

April will have problems with some colleagues regarding her new position. Instead of boosting her morale and helping her adjust to her new major role, some will be sarcastic and contemptuous towards her. She will, at times, feel the pressure, as others doubt her leadership skills. Even some of the patients will question April’s capabilities.

On the “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13 Episode 13 promo video on YouTube, one doctor asked April whether Dr. Grey is sick, with the former explaining that Dr. Grey has been suspended and she is now in charge. The look of surprise and doubt was evident on the other doctor’s face. One patient apparently did not want to be checked by April, saying that she was not Dr. Grey.

In another scene, April ate alone in the cafeteria while the rest scornfully talked about her. In the next scene, Maggie (Kelly McCreary) called her a traitor, while April tried to explain that she was just doing her job. The teaser narrated that there will be a revolt against her while Grey is out. She has to watch her next moves carefully or risk losing her promotion quickly.

According to Cartermatt, April’s promotion also compels her to take on various tasks, including having to impose on Minnick’s teachings. Otherwise, she may also be suspended. Will she try to stay firm about her head status or sacrifice her new position to side with her colleagues?

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13 Episode 13 will air on Feb. 16, 2017 on ABC in the US and on SyFy in Australia. It also airs on Neftlix US and Netflix Australia.
