“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12 moves multiple stories forward in its 2-hour special on Thursday on ABC. Jackson and April (Japril) appear to have finally come to a place where they can both heal, while Callie and Arizona (Calzona) find themselves on the verge of a legal battle. Meanwhile, Bailey and Ben fail to separate their personal and professional lives after a huge error in judgment.

Spoiler alert: This review contains “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12 spoilers. Details include the highlights of “There’s A Fine, Fine Line” [Greys 5x18] and “It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding) [Greys 5x19].” The latest episodes aired back-to-back on April 14 on ABC.

Jackson and April feel their baby kick for the first time together. Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) share a brilliant moment toward the end of Episode 19. He doesn’t like the person he’s becoming in the midst of their longstanding conflict, he tells her. She feels his sincerity, takes his hand and lets him feel their baby kicking.

Williams and Drew may have lacked some real chemistry when they started off as a couple some seasons ago, but they made a believable couple out of Japril through the little bumps and enormous tragedies up to the point when they settle for a moment, and just feel their baby move. It’s such a powerful joyful scene. Viewers could only hope that Japril’s story would continue to move forward on the positive side.

Callie inadvertently shocks Arizona with her decision to move their daughter away. Callie (Sara Ramirez) is moving across the country for Penny (Samantha Sloyan). She drops this news so casually to Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), that there is no way she could have seen a custody battle coming so swiftly. Calzona has been one of the most beloved couples in “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Ramirez and Capshaw portray their characters in the most believable way possible. In contrast to the Japril drama where things are calming down, the new Calzona conflict hasn’t even officially begun. Fans brace themselves for things to get worse as the “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12 finale approaches.

Bailey makes a professional decision, suffers domestic crisis. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) suspends Ben (Jason George) for six months after he made another “astonishing” protocol breach, so soon after he operated on a man with a clipboard in a psych ward. Ben doesn’t seem to understand the situation that he’s put Bailey in. He could not draw the line when it comes to calls he has to make as a resident.

A few episodes ago, an accountant told Bailey and Ben that they could get a divorce to get better tax arrangements. At the time, it did not seem like a horrible idea to Bailey. Her reactions seemed to say she’d go for what’s practical. But now, Bailey is saying she would not be able to forgive Ben soon, after his horrible professional mistake. Will they face divorce like Japril and Calzona?

“Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes went on Twitter Thursday to live tweet her reactions to the developments in the abck-to-back episodes. See her tweets below.
