In this week’s episode of the FOX drama series, “Gotham,” things escalate very quickly after detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) finally finds enough evidence to arrest Theo Galavan (James Frain). Meanwhile, Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) finds an ally in Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor). [Warning: Spoiler Alert]

According to TV.com, episode 9 is titled “A Bitter Pill to Swallow.” It appears that Jim Gordon won’t have any time to catch his breath following the arrest of Theo Galavan. The synopsis states that in the upcoming episode, he will be coming face to face with a “dangerous hit man.”

It is unclear if the hit man has any connection with Galavan, who is on a mission to take out Jim. In the previous episode, he sent Jim’s deranged ex-fiance, Barbara Keane (Erin Richards), on a mission to kill him. Luckily, Jim survived the ploy and even managed to rescue Mayor James, and gather enough evidence to arrest Galavan.

With Galavan behind bars, Bruce Wayne will continue to pressure him to give up information about the deaths of his parents. Galavan previously told Bruce that he knew who was behind his parents’ murders, but he never gave up the information after Bruce refused to sell Wayne Enterprises.

Elsewhere, Ed Nygma has completely allowed his villainous side to take over. After killing his girlfriend, Kristen Kringle, and a random man who stumbled upon her grave, he has become more casual and comfortable about killing. He will find even more confidence in his new sinister personality, when he teams up with Penguin.

In the episode trailer, the two of them are seen working together. It appears that they will hold someone captive. The video shows Nygma taking a man out of a closet as Penguin observes. The man struggles with his limbs bound to a chair, and his head covered with a sack. [scroll down for video]

Jim and his boss, Capt. Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis) will continue to do what they can to keep Gotham City under control. The trailer shows them talking about the law and how to stay within its boundaries as they do their jobs.
