A group of escaped inmates from the Arkham Asylum form a criminal group called "Maniax" in the FOX series "Gotham." FOX

Season 2 of the FOX series “Gotham” has been taken over by the iconic “Batman” villain, The Joker. Known in the series as Jerome Valeska, the psychotic criminal continues to leave a string of carnage behind him on episode 3 titled “The Last Laugh.” [Spoiler Alert!]

According to the episode synopsis shared by TV.com, detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and his newly reinstated partner, Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), are on a hunt for “a nemesis from the past.”

This hunt will supposedly lead to a stand-off between Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) and Gordon. It may be remembered that in Season 1, it was Gordon and Bullock who arrested Jerome and put him in Arkham Asylum. He was institutionalised after killing his own mother. Unfortunately, in Season 2, he managed to escape with a group of other lunatics, thanks to the help of Theo Galavan (James Frain) and his sister Tabitha (Jessica Lucas).

The promo video for episode 3 confirms what the synopsis states. “A magic show at a Gotham Children's Hospital gala results in a hostage situation,” and Jerome could be seen telling Gordon that he doesn’t intend to let anyone leave alive. [scroll down for video]

Also in the trailer, Jerome could be seen talking to his dad. He tells his dad about Galavan and how the influential businessman believes in his abilities. He speaks about his delusions of grandeur before he tells his father that he’s about to join his mother, whom he murdered in Season 1.

So far, Gordon has found himself neck-deep in problems in Season 2. Galavan and his group of lunatics, who call themselves “Maniax,” have massacred a large number of police officers and continue to wreak havoc in the city.

Find out how Gordon copes with the “Rise of the Villains” on “Gotham.” The series airs every Monday at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
