The new Fox series “Gotham” is a spin-off from the “Batman” comic books and films. The series focuses on the rise to power of Gotham City’s Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. However, apart from Jim, the roots and beginnings of some of Batman’s biggest villains are also tackled in the series. Penguin, The Riddler, Catwoman, Two-Face and The Scarecrow have already featured prominently, but the latest promo video for episode 16 suggests that The Joker might be introduced sooner rather than later. [Warning: Spoiler Alert!]

The video starts off by naming some of the villains that have figured prominently in the series so far. The original villain of "Gotham,"Fish Mooney, is mentioned first. She is the only major villain that is not inspired by the comic books but was created specifically for the series. After Mooney, The Riddler, Catwoman and The Penguin are shown before the video shifts to a teaser. [Scroll down for video]

“Gotham’s next villain is no joke,” the clip teases before cutting to a pale man who has a distinctly sinister laugh. Could this finally be the debut of “The Joker,” one of Batman’s most famous nemeses?

According to Hollywood Reporter, show producers Warner Brothers Television has declined to comment on the matter. While the studio is keeping mum, TV Guide reports that the show’s executive producer Bruno Heller has dropped some information. “We've said you're going to be waiting a bit longer for it, but this is America -- nobody wants to wait, so we will scratch the surface of that story, yes. But just scratch it -- a little tap on the door," said Heller.

Elsewhere in the story, a young Bruce Wayne is moving to take better control of Wayne Enterprises. He calls for a meeting and tells his board of directors that he is concerned about the company’s involvement with the Mafia and the manufacture of chemical weapons.

Fish Mooney will also be working to get her power and influence back and return to Gotham City. She has already begun her mission by commandeering a small gang after she killed their leader in the previous episode. “Gotham” Episode 16 titled “The Blind Fortune Teller” will air on Monday, Feb. 16, on Fox.
