"Gotham" season 3 is coming soon and the official synopsis for the hit television series has been released by Fox and WBTV. Also, a new character portrait is also introduced starring Maggie Geha as Poison Ivy.

Previously played by Clare Foley in the first two seasons, Poison Ivy takes a drastic change in the new season.

The synopsis also teases the appearance of The Court of Owls, the Mad Hatter, the Tweed Brothers, as well as what Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will be up to. Check out the extended synopsis below:

“The origin story continues on season three of Gotham, and the stakes are higher than ever, as Super-Villains more ambitious and depraved are introduced, and a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power in Gotham City.”

Season 3 will reintroduce the infamous criminal organisation Court of The Owls to fight against the heroes in the show. As the Indian Hill escapees are on the loose, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) goes to assume his role as a bounty hunter in Gotham. He's set to find Hugo Strange (guest star BD Wong) who's the mastermind behind the Indian Hill experiments, and Fish Mooney (guest star Jada Pinkett Smith), one of Strange’s experimental subjects. Meanwhile, GCPD Detective Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) and Captain Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis) are set to continue fighting against crime in the city of Gotham.

An interesting mystery to unfold in "Gotham's" third season is regarding Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) parents. Wayne, together with his butler and mentor Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee), and former Wayne Enterprises employee, Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk), will purportedly discover more secrets to uncover the murder and death of his parents.

"Gotham" season 3 will also delve deeper in the evolving stories of the city's villains: The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Edward Nygma/the future Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), Barbara Kean (Erin Richards), Tabitha Galavan/Tigress (Jessica Lucas) and Butch Gilzean (Drew Powell).

Finally, the series will also catch up with the future Poison Ivy (Maggie Geha) who's found herself reborn as a young woman after an encounter with a monster from Indian Hill. The story will later then dive into the origin stories of Jervis Tetch/Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel) and the Tweed Brothers.

Gotham will premiere its third season on Sep. 19 on Fox. The Australian airing date for “Gotham” is yet to be announced.
