GoPro has announced the recall of its US$799 (AU$1,044) Karma drone in the US.

On Oct. 23, the company has sold 2,500 units with a small number reported to have lost power during operation. Although the drone has a defect, there were no reports of injuries or property damage.

"We have recalled Karma until we resolve a performance issue related to a loss of power during operation," the company said in a statement. The company is investigating the issue and working with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The recall does not cover the HERO5 Black and Karma Grip. However, if the owner purchased a Karma drone bundle package including the HERO5 Black and Karma Grip, the package must be returned with the Karma for a full refund.

The company also encouraged owners to stop using the product immediately even it appears to be working fine. Every owner of the Karma should participate in the recall. GoPro Care and any Karma-related accessories are eligible for a refund.

The drones can be returned to GoPro directly or wherever it was purchased originally. Exchanges for a fixed model is not available at the moment but the company gives a full refund instead. When the issue is resolved, the shipments of the fixed model resumes.

The company allows the owners to return the drone even without the receipt.

US customers are eligible in the recall. The announcement did not include whether buyers from Australia or other countries can participate.
