Google has officially announced that the Android Wear will now work with iPhones. Google has started rolling out its wearable operating system for iOS on Aug. 31. Now, iPhones can simply be paired with all the latest Android Wear watches to get all the necessary information right on the user’s wrist.

Apple iPhone 5 models and later editions (5S, 5C, 6 or 6 Plus), which are running iOS 8.2 or later, will be able to sync with watches running Android Wear. Currently, the Android Wear for iOS works only the LG Watch Urbane. However, it will be soon accompanied by the latest Android watches.

“All future Android Wear watches, including those from Huawei, Asus and Motorola will also support iOS, so stay tuned for more,” said Director of Engineering for Android Wear David Singleton in in an official statement.

Until now, Android Wear smartphones only worked with Android-based smartphones. It will operate in a slightly variable manner with the iPhones depending on the version of Apple’s mobile operating system and app permission, reports Digital Trends.

Once synced with the iPhone, users can read messages on the smartwatch, check notifications, set fitness goals, get daily or weekly updates on the fitness progress, track walking and running speeds and even monitor heart rates. The smartwatch will help the users save time by providing information like appointment time, remind to do certain odd jobs, current traffic news and flight status.

There will be some limitations in using the Android Wear for Apple devices. The Android Wear smartwatches cannot be connected to a Wi-Fi network and, as such, will only use cellular connection. However, it is worth mentioning that Android Wear watches that are connected to Android-based phones can still avail of Wi-Fi connectivity. The iPhone users will not be able to access any third-party Android Wear app like Pinterest from Google Play, as reported by CNET.
