Google's Street View will not be showing just streets and roads but the inside of selected business establishments as well.

Street View photographers are now scheduling photo shoots of interiors of restaurants, hotels, retail shops, gyms, salons, repair shops and a variety of other storefront businesses in cities in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, France, and the UK. The panoramic photos will appear in the "indoors" view of Google Street View and business page of Google Places so users can take a virtual tour of the inside of these establishments and even zoom in and zoom out to see what are on their shelves.

Private homes, hospitals and big brand chain establishments are excluded from the photo shoot.

Firms are welcome to have their shops photographed but the imagery excludes people. Faces will be blurred if they appear on the photos.

Google said the new service will benefit businesses by attracting potential customers.

"In the future, users will be able to enter the 360-degree interior perspective directly from Street View imagery of nearby roads for many locations. We may also create new features or applications that use the business photos that the trusted photographers take at your premises," an FAQ on the project posted on Maps.google.com said.
