A number of premium smartphones are due for release this year, and Google Pixel 2 is definitely one of them. It is expected to come bundled with the Android O operating system when it is released.

Reports suggest that the smartphone could be released in October, and fans may have to shell out US$50 (AU$66 approx) than the predecessor. The extra money that fans may have to pay could be because of better features and specs that Google will be bringing to the smartphone.

One such possibility is the dual-lens camera after LG, Apple and Huawei all adopted this technology in 2016. Samsung will also include one in its Galaxy Note 8 smartphone as well. Experts have suggested a 16MP primary snapper and a secondary 12MP lens.

In terms of battery capacity, the Pixel 2 will likely have a battery capacity in excess of 3000 mAh. A 3500 mAh battery is highly possible. If this is true, Google will also have to work on the design of the premium smartphone.

Speakers installed in the Pixel smartphone have been criticised for being mediocre. Hence, improvements are expected in the upcoming smartphone. The 3.5mm headphone jack will not be removed too. One thing fans are almost sure of is the processor to be used in the Google Pixel 2 smartphone.

It has to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. This processor has already been installed in some of the best smartphones including Samsung Galaxy S8. If Pixel 2 also uses this processor, it would result in extremely competitive performance.

In a bid to improve the functionality of this smartphone series, Google may make the upcoming smartphone waterproof. This has been a key feature for both Samsung and Apple. Moreover, the Google phone may go with 32GB internal storage. microSD may not be included, writes ValueWalk.

Certain rumours also hinted at USB Type-C functionality in the device. The fingerprint scanner could be placed on the rear or embedded within the glass-fronted panel. A recent benchmark listing has also stated that the Pixel XL 2 will have an 18:9 aspect ratio. Galaxy S8 and LG G6 also have similar aspect ratios. There is a possibility of a 5.65-inch display, quad-HD resolution, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and 12MP/7MP cameras in Pixel XL 2. The front panel of Pixel 2 could be completely dominated by the display.

As per The Indian Express, the Google Pixel 2 handset could involve guidance from LG. Stay tuned on IBT AU for more updates on the smartphone.
