On paper, Google's latest smartphone, the Nexus 6, is not water resistant and therefore, it does not come with the IP67/68 rating seen in the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone. But then, a couple of torture test results show the Motorola-made Nexus 6 is, in fact, water-resistant.

According to reports, Motorola has used the now-famous "nano coating" in its Nexus 6. This coating was made popular by Motorola when it introduced the coating on its Moto G variants. The wallet-friendly Motorola Moto G can also withstand water accidents and so does the high-end Motorola device Moto X 2014. With this history in mind, a torture test was performed on the Google Nexus 6 to determine if the flagship handset can endure water accidents.

A recently released YouTube video from Cricket Users Forum shows the Nexus 6 being dropped in a bathtub. Going by the video, when the Nexus 6 was dropped on to the bathtub, the device was also charging wirelessly. As it turns out, the latest Google device, indeed, comes with water-resistant capabilities. Reportedly, the YouTube user posted on XDA developers forum that the handset performed normally after taking the device out of the water and also after several days. Therefore, it is safe to conclude the Motorola Nexus 6 can endure accidental drops in water, says Phone Arena.

It is worth noting that the Moto G famously survived underwater for more than 30 minutes without damaging itself. Another YouTube user named Harris Craycraft dunked the Motorola Nexus 6 underwater for a good one hour. The nano coating helped the device to survive the prolonged submersion. Also, the device worked normally right after withstanding the underwater torture test.

Motorola Droid Turbo comes with a similar coating. According to GSM Arena, the handset can sit in a 6-inch bed of water for a minute with no damage to the internals. Nevertheless, readers are not advised to test their handsets underwater. Here is the video showcasing the one-hour underwater torture test:
