For Nexus 5 users who wish to try out the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update now have the option to install an Android 5.0.1 xTraSmooth Lollipop ROM. According to Team Android, the custom program offers a range of features including:

  • Stability on long time
  • Great performance
  • Amazing battery life

Prior to upgrading the device, users are advised to do the following:

  • Back up all important information and settings
  • Install custom recovery tool like the TWRP or ClockworkMod
  • Enable USB Debugging on the device
  • Charge the device at least 80 to 85 percent
  • Learn and understand rooting and other similar steps

To update the device, follow the instructions below:

1. Download the Android 5.0.1 xTraSmooth ROM file package.

2. Connect the Nexus 5 to the computer via USB.

3. Transfer the Android 5.0.1 xTraSmooth ROM zip file to the SD card of the device. See that it is copied to the SD card root.

4. Turn off device and disconnect from the computer.

5. Switch to Bootloader mode. Do this by pressing and holding the following buttons: Power, Volume Up and Down.

6. Choose BOOTLOADER RECOVERY from the navigation.

7. Under ClockworkMod Recovery do a complete data swiper. Choose "wipe data/factory reset."

8. Proceed with "wipe cache partition."

9. Return to main recovery screen then choose "install zip from SD card."

10. Install the files from the zip file.

11. Following installation, choose "+++++Go Back+++++" then "reboot system now."

It requires around 1.1GB space and offers a transformed TouchWiz interface. This means that the official release is just around the corner. The update leak pertains to the Galaxy Note 3 model number N9005.
