Likely giving life to the Nexus 2015 on its release date is the latest Google operating system, which according to Google’s I/O Developers Conference this year is taking the name Android M. And with the software’s imminent arrival, major upgrades are also expected to get unleashed.

From Android 5.0 or Lollipop, Google is preparing to serve its newest sweet concoction that for the moment is being referred to as Android M. The revelation was unintentionally included by Google with its official I/O 2015 program calendar, according to Android Police. The tech giant later realised the slip and deleted the term Android M from the list, added the report that was accompanied by a screenshot to support its claim.

Android 5.5 or 6.0

The belated correction notwithstanding, the welcome slip by Google further fired up speculations that Android is adding another flavour to its growing list of menu. Traditionally, the company’s annual I/O gathering is used as a launch pad for new Android versions. Lollipop made its first peek via the event in 2014 and initially it was labelled as Android L.

It is not remote that Android M will take on the same course then reveal its official name in the next few months to come. Android 5.0 became Lollipop when the Motorola Nexus 6 was unveiled and the likelihood is Google will unwrap the real Android M identity once the Nexus 2015 is ready for unboxing.

Recent reports have indicated that Android M actually means Muffin. The assumption makes sense as it will be in line with Google’s naming convention for its mobile operating system.

Material Design 2.0

The next Android is expected to step up on the mobile features and functionalities that were delivered with the Lollipop and Nexus 6 tandem and one key element that should get the welcome update is Material Design. This bump up will likely be revealed via the I/O event this May, according to 9to5Google.

What is next for Material Design is not really being discussed by Google at the moment but the company is at least dropping clues that it will be one of the major subjects that Android developers can expect to be briefed on. Like in the Nexus 6, Material Design this 2015 should further enhance the next Nexus user interface – making it all the more minimalistic, straightforward and engaging.

However, clearer details on the matter should be provided in time for the Nexus 2015 release date later in the year. This happening exactly is between October and November or at around the same time the Nexus 6 was rolled out in 2014.
