Google integrated ‘My Maps’, a tool that allows users to create custom maps, into Google Drive on July 1, according to reports. This change will sit beside Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Google Forms and Drawings, reports Tech Crunch. The integration of My Maps into Google Drive will enable My Maps users to store and share their maps on Drive, besides making the service more discoverable.

“Whether you’re planning your next event, mapping out the best route to visit clients, or sharing the location of your food truck with fans, Google My Maps makes it easy to put your world on a custom map. Starting today, you can access My Maps right from Google Drive on your Google Apps account, so it’s even easier to create, find and share your custom maps,” said Stafford Marquardt, Product Manager, Google My Maps.

Google explains this by citing an example, “Jessica owns a food truck and every Thursday she decides her location based on fan votes. She creates a Google Form and posts it online, gathers votes and can lay them all out on one map to find the most popular location.”

Despite being launched in 2007, Google’s My Maps is still not very popular but lately, it has been getting noticed because of a quick-access button inside Google Drive, reports 9 to 5 Google. With My Maps, users can build custom maps on Google’s platform.

It is convenient to combine My Maps with data from Google Forms and other tools available under Google Drive’s stable, reports Tech Crunch. Users can share their maps from Google Drive and search tem for Drive’s regular search box.

Google had recently announced that it would shut down few of its mapping products like Maps Coordinate and Maps Engine, which is likely to close in 2016. Besides that, Google Earth Enterprise and the Google Earth API will also be closed down by the end of this year, reports Tech Crunch.
