Google may be working on a new Lollipop follow up through the Android 5.1 update. The original version has been plagued with a number of issues which will make another Lollipop version only natural. According to reports, the new Android 5.1 will come with a variety of enhancements including improved stability, RAM management feature and resolution for abrupt app closures.

The new report came from AndroidPIT hinting at another major software update around new year. According to the report, people should expect the following features on the upcoming update:

  • General improvements in system stability
  • Improved RAM management
  • Fixes for sudden app closures
  • Improved battery management
  • Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
  • Issues with wireless connections fixed
  • Problems with Okay Google function solved
  • Notifications problems solved
  • Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
  • Other improvements and changes

As with other Android leaks and updates, everything should be taken with a grain of salt unless details are confirmed by Google. While there is no way in confirming whether the Android 5.1 may indeed be coming sooner, the leaked changelog may be a good starting point.

According to reports, the log details particular issues raised on the Lollipop. It also appears like a wish list that came directly from affected users. Previously, Nexus users reported having problems with the Wifi connections, sudden app crashes, lagging performance and battery issues. Google has released the Android 5.0.1 update but the effect of the update has yet to be measured fully.

On another note, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update has not rolled out to all of Android manufacturers with the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 slated to receive it around early 2015.

Sony made the announcement last Wednesday via Twitter. According to the Sony Xperia account: "@SamTomelleri We'll start the upgrade at beginning of 2015 for the core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series." There are no details yet on when other handsets like Xperia Z and Xperia Z1 will get the device. Last November, Sony introduced the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update to its Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet series.
