In January 2016, Julianna Margulies, star of “The Good Wife,” hinted that she will be looking for a job in May, after the series officially ends.

On the show, Margulies plays the role of Alicia Florrick, a defense lawyer and wife of a politician who gets involved in a scandal and ends up in jail. Florrick is shown trying to balance her career, family life and other personal issues.

News of the series ending was confirmed after CBS announced at Super Bowl 50 that Season 7 of “The Good Wife” will be the last. The final episode will air on May 8, 2016. Showrunners Robert and Michelle King announced that they will exit the show after the current season. Although the network could have continued to the eighth season, with the King spouses functioning in supervisory manner, CBS decided not to renew the show.

According to Vulture, Margulies confirmed that “The Good Wife” was truly ending when she spoke at the Casting Society of America’s third annual Artios Awards. Margulies said that she wanted to take advantage of the presence of the Kings, as well as several other casting directors.

“I surprised Robert and Michelle tonight. They didn’t know I was going to be here. They think I’m here for them, but I’m unemployed come April, and I think you haven’t seen me in a while, at least not in person, so I thought I should show up,” Margulies said during her speech.

TVLine writes that in another statement, the 49-year-old actress shared that being part of “The Good Wife” has been one of the most rewarding experiences of her career. As an actress and producer, Margulies said that she is honored to have been part of a series that always aimed to be extraordinary, and not just good.

She commended Robert and Michelle King again for their creativity and brilliance and writing. She also thanked members of the cast and crew. She added that as they close their beloved show after seven years, she is grateful and humbled for what they have accomplished together.

The next episode of “The Good Wife” will air next on Mar. 6 on CBS in the U.S. and on Channel Ten in Australia.
