In a battle between conference rivals, the Utah Jazz (47-33) will host the Golden State Warriors (58-23) at the Vivint Smart Home Arena on Tuesday evening (Wednesday AEDT). While the Warriors have already locked up the No. 2 seed, the Jazz are still jostling for playoff seeding with just two games left in the season.

With a victory over the Warriors, the Jazz could potentially move to the No. 3 seed ahead of the 2018 NBA Playoffs which gets underway on Saturday, April 15. After hosting the Warriors on Tuesday, the Jazz will host the Portland Trail Blazers exactly 24 hours later. Interestingly, the Blazers are Utah's biggest competition for the No. 3 seed. If the Jazz can prevail in both games, they will lock up home-court advantage for at least the first two rounds of the playoffs.

The Jazz clinched their postseason berth on Sunday (Monday) courtesy a 112-97 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. It capped off an amazing rise for a team that held a 19-28 record in mid-January. "What this group of guys has done -- as far as being nine games below .500 and dealing with a lot of adversity and change -- I'm really proud of their effort over the course of the season," a proud Jazz coach Quin Snyder said on Sunday.

Rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell believes his team has the tools to cause a few upsets in the playoffs. "We want to stay right where we are at, if not, keep going higher. We want to keep working and keep doing what we've been doing. If we keep playing like this we'll be in good shape," Mitchell said, via ESPN.

Meanwhile, the injury-plagued Warriors have lost five of their last 10 games and aren't taking the desired momentum into the postseason. After the reigning NBA champions allowed 126 points in back-to-beat defeats to the Indiana Pacers and New Orleans Pelicans, coach Steve Kerr called out his team for lack of effort on defence.

"My main message is we've got to defend. We've got to get back to being a top-five defensive team. I probably chose my words poorly in Indianapolis. When I said they didn't care, that didn't mean that they didn't 'care.' What that meant to me was they didn't box out. They didn't get in the passing lanes. They didn't compete at a high level," Kerr said on Sunday.

The Warriors will play their final regular season game against the Jazz on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT). Despite the injuries, Las Vegas oddsmakers view the Warriors as the odds-on favourites to repeat as NBA champions in June.
