The Golden State Warriors (34-6) will host arch-rivals the Cleveland Cavaliers (29-10) in the second and final regular season match-up between the two former NBA champions at the Oracle Arena on Monday.

After the Cavaliers prevailed with a nail-biting win on Christmas Day, Golden State will try to get one back on LeBron James & Co. in a nationally-televised game on Martin Luther King Day. At this stage of the season, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that the Warriors and Cavaliers will return to the NBA finals for a third consecutive year in June.

During the Christmas Day game, the Warriors blew a 14-point fourth quarter lead before Kyrie Irving made a clutch jumper as the Cavaliers escaped with a 109-108 victory. Irving, now viewed as the best "closer" in the league, had made a similar clutch basket during Game 7 of the NBA finals last June.

The Warriors enter the game with a slight edge due to their recent schedule. Stephen Curry & Co. haven't left Northern California in over three weeks and are well-rested after their 127-107 win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday. The Cavaliers, on the other hand, will be playing their sixth road game in the span of 11 days.

Warriors vs Cavs: LeBron James reckons Golden State better than last year

While many analysts feel Golden State, despite adding Kevin Durant via free agency, aren't as potent as the last two seasons, LeBron James is of the opinion that the Warriors are more dangerous than they've ever been. "They're even more dangerous (than the 73-9 team last season). They're even more dangerous than they were last year, and that's pretty hard to say because they were a damn great team last year. They're even better this year," James told reporters ahead of Monday's game, via ESPN.

Draymond Green, viewed by many as the most critical player in Golden State's pursuit of another championship, has acknowledged that his team won't be treating this as "just another game". After Golden State picked up routine home wins over the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons, Green said the game against the Cavs would be a good indication of where his team stands four months before another potential NBA finals showdown.

"It's more important that we play well (than pick up a win). We need to get better. We still have a lot of work to do," Green said before admitting that a win would be a morale-booster. "When we play well, we usually win."

After Monday's game, the Warriors stay at home to host Russell Westbrook & the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday in Kevin Durant's second game against his old team. Following that, they will host the Houston Rockets, currently the No. 3 seed in the West, on Friday before setting off on a four-game road trip.
