The Golden State Warriors, trying to add "the best available point guard" to their roster from the NBA's buyout market, could target Brandon Jennings, per reports. On Monday, the New York Knicks waived Jennings, allowing the veteran guard to retain playoff eligibility for his next team.

Veteran players, on expiring contracts, have until Wednesday's NBA buyout deadline to secure a release from incumbent teams -- in order to join a playoff-bound squad. The likes of Deron Williams, Andrew Bogut, Jennings and Jose Calderon will headline the buyout market -- with at least three of those four players expected to play for either the Cleveland Cavaliers or Golden State Warriors, the two prohibitive favourites to win the NBA championship in June. Shams Charania of The Vertical has confirmed that Calderon and Warriors have mutual interest. On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers waived Calderon.

Could Warriors add both Jennings and Calderon?

On Monday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr told Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle that his team was looking to shore up its point guard depth before a potentially deep playoff run. "We're looking for the best available PG. If there’s some playoff experience there, that’s a positive," Kerr said on Monday, a day before the Warriors began a five-game East Coast road trip starting with a fixture in Brooklyn.

Meanwhile, Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy reckons Jennings could sign with the Charlotte Hornets if clears waivers. "Jennings should be a substantial upgrade on Brian Roberts as the backup to Kemba Walker with Ramon Sessions side-lined by knee surgery. The Hornets are three games back of the eighth seed but could still mount a late run if they get Cody Zeller healthy. Charlotte is 22-17 when Zeller plays and 3-17 without him this season," ESPN's Kevin Pelton noted on the Jennings to Hornets chatter. Van Gundy had coached Jennings for three seasons during their time together in Detroit.

ESPN's Mark Stein responded to Van Gundy's prediction via a Tweet: "Hearing that the Hornets, despite Stan Van Gundy's prediction, are happy with the Briante Weber move and unlikely to pursue Brandon Jennings". A few hours later, ESPN's Chris Haynes Tweeted that the Washington Wizards could target Jennings. "One team, league sources tell ESPN, with interest in newly released backup point guard Brandon Jennings: Washington." Will the Warriors pursue Brandon Jennings? Stay tuned for the latest updates. Jennings averaged 8.6 points and 4.9 assists per game from 24.6 minutes off the bench for the Knicks.
