It’s happened to many of us. Our emails on Google sometimes land in the Spam folder instead of the Inbox. And there was no way we could find this out unless we checked the Spam folder, which wasn't often.

Now, Gmail has received a major update that enables users to search for missing emails even in the Spam folder.

“Sometimes emails are mistakenly marked as spam or put into Trash, and they can be difficult to discover via search,” Google explains in a blog post.

With the latest update, finding missing emails will be easier than ever as Gmail will display search results from the entire account, including Spam folder. Earlier, the Inbox and Trash folders were only indexed.

Users can find a footer at the bottom indicating the search result has matched and subsequently help the user to find the mail. Gmail will also notify the user to improve search using more specific search queries, says Google. A general search query will display a different footer to help users improvise their search query.

The company plans to release the update in phases. Google says the update will be rolled out in the coming two weeks.

Google has always tried to simplify the user interface and enhance user experience. It recently added Smart Reply to Gmail’s Inbox. The new feature is aimed at reducing the time spent composing text messages. Inbox uses machine learning to identify emails that need quick answers and create natural responses spontaneously.

“Smart Reply suggests up to three responses based on the emails you get. For those emails that only need a quick response, it can take care of the thinking and save precious time spent typing,” said Bálint Miklós, Software Engineer, on the official Gmail Blog.
