Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke, the best-friend duo starring in the TV show “Girls,” recently posed for Lonely Label’s ongoing journal series “The Lonely Girls Project.” Lena, the writer for the show, has been announced as the new face of “The Lonely Girls Project,” along with Jemima.

The two stars have stripped down to their underwear for the photoshoot in the name of body positivity. Dunham and Kirke are the latest faces and bodies of New Zealand-based lingerie brand Lonely, which focuses on wearing lingerie in an emancipating way. Lena and Jemima were not digitally retouched in the images.

There were people rammed the actress with words like “yuck” and “very fat” when she posted the picture on Instagram with the caption, “Love my @lonelylingerie and I think I will wear it to dinner with some boots & a smile because we are all very lucky to be free.” At the same time, there were also fans who came to her defence saying that her originality and confidence are inspiring.

Earlier this year, Dunham got into a highly circulated discourse with Spanish magazine Tentaciones. Lena apparently believed that the magazine had photoshopped her cover shoot. She then took to Instagram to spill the beans. She wrote, “This is NOT what my body has ever looked like or will ever look like. The magazine has done more than the average photoshop."

However, things turned quite embarrassing for Lena when Tentaciones proved her wrong. They addressed an open letter to the actress which disclosed that the image had never been retouched.

Dunham then gradually announced that she would never allow any of her body images to be retouched again. She has kept her promise in the latest shoot.

“Instead of being objectified, the women who participate in these campaigns – in this case, Lena and Jemima – are empowered and exhibit real beauty that will hopefully help women everywhere feel a little more liberated," Lonely said in a statement.

“Girls” is an American television series. It is a comedy-drama which follows the lives of four young women living in New York City. The show’s most important aspects of the main character are drawn from Dunham’s own life.
