Good news “Gilmore Girls” fans: comedy actress Melissa McCarthy will appear in the upcoming reboot, and she couldn’t be more excited.

Netflix announced in January that the hit series will be making a comeback, drawing positive reactions and excitement from its loyal followers. However, as the cast members were being finalised, they were disappointed to learn that “Gilmore Girls” favourite Sookie St. James, played by McCarthy, will not join the Stars Hollow gang.

McCarthy took to Twitter in February to share that she wasn’t asked back to the show. The “Ghostbusters” star wrote, “[S]adly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow. Wish them all the best!!” she wrote in early February.

Two months later, a positive development was revealed: the DragonFly Inn owner and chef will appear on the “Gilmore Girls” reboot. McCarthy announced the news on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“There has something I’ve been asked about so, so many times, and it hasn’t worked out,” she said. “They’re making four new movies of the Gilmore Girls, which is a show that was near and dear to my heart for four years, and we could not get those schedules to work.”

McCarthy also told DeGeneres, “There was a whole thing, and then I was going to be out of the country, and literally about an hour and a half ago, we figured out that I’m going to go back and do it, and I am so excited! They’re going to be amazing.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in April, “Gilmore Girls” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino denied that there was some bad blood with McCarthy. “I’ve been told by her people for months, ‘Can’t happen. Can’t happen. Can’t happen,’” Sherman-Palladino said. “There’s nothing juicy or hidden here. It’s a matter of she’s one of the top working actresses in films today, and we are very proud of her.”

McCarthy will join “Gilmore Girls” lead stars Lauren Graham (Lorelei) and Alexis Bledel (Rory), who were earlier announced to reprise their roles. Other “Gilmore Girls” cast members who will return include Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Sean Gunn, Keiko Agena and David Sutcliffe. All of Rory’s boyfriends will also make appearances on the show’s reboot, namely Milo Ventimiglia, Jared Padalecki and Matt Czuchry.
