It’s been a month since Google Nexus 5 was updated with Android 6.0 Marshmallow but many still aren’t impressed with the new OS. If you want to improve the speed of Nexus 5 and get the most out of the new OS, then upgrade to 6.0 Marshmallow via CM13 Custom ROM.

AnTuTu said the current version of Marshmallow failed in repeated testing despite this OS being superior to its former versions, reports Android ITPIT. To fix the problem, install CyanogenMod CM13 custom ROM onto your device.

Remember these before installing:

By installing ROM onto a device, you improve the performance of Marshmallow and the UI experience, though you don’t get a warranty certificate with it. Before heading for ROM installation, make sure your device is in sync.

Remember that the CM13 custom ROM can only be installed on any Nexus 5 LTE model. To check if your device is compatible with custom ROM, go to settings-about phone-model number and verify the LTE’s model code.

Use a USB driver for installation and ensure that your device has minimum 80% charge, otherwise it will run out in the middle of installation. Save data in memory by means of ClockWORK Mod recovery/TWRP since all data should be cleared before installation starts.

Installation procedure

First, download Google apps and CM13 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM to PC. Use a USB cord to connect PC with the Nexus 5 device. Then, copy-paste Google apps and Custom ROM file to the device’s memory. Once done, disengage your Nexus device from PC and turn it off, reports IBTimes.com.

Start ‘Bootloader mode’ by holding ‘power buttons’, ‘volume up’ and ‘volume down. Once done, go to TWRP recovery tool and choose ‘wipe data/factory reset’ to perform a full data wipe. After you clear cache memory, tap ‘install zip from SD card’ to open the Marshmallow ROM.zip file. This will start the installation process.

Once done with installation, switch off and start the device again to reboot your system. Users should select settings-about phone. This will help confirm installation of CM13 Marshmallow custom ROM.
