George R.R. Martin did not write the scene where Sansa Stark got raped by Ramsay, which riled a lot of fans, even to the point of calling for a boycott of the show. However, the famed author of the books turned hit TV series, had a lot to say about the wedding night controversy, especially since fans have been bombarding him with questions as to why the scene had to happen when it was not on the books.

On his live journal account, George R.R. Martin defended the show runners of “Game of Thrones,” amid the controversy over the wedding night turned sexual violence of one of the main casts of the series: Sansa Stark. First, Martin said that viewers should know by now that the the characters on their favourite show are fictional. Moreover, they should also be used already to the fact that TV shows adapted from books do not usually stay faithful to the books, “Game of Thrones” not included. ”There have been differences between the novels and the television show since the first episode of season one,” he wrote. "And for just as long, I have been talking about the butterfly effect. Small changes lead to larger changes lead to huge changes,” he added.

He said show runners David Benioff, Dan Weiss and Bryan Cogman only wanted to make the “best television series that they can.” However, the longer the show runs, the changes are undoubtedly become bigger as well, and “stirring up storms” like what is happening now. The most important thing is that both camps, the TV show runners and him, as the book runner, would ultimately arrive at the same place.

It can be remembered that the show runners already warned viewers that the current season, and especially the subsequent seasons of the series may deviate from Martin’s books, because the author has not yet finished penning the books and is unfazed by the pressure to do so. The show runners however, guarantee the fans that the books and the show would ultimately end similarly, because they have been collaborating with Martin on it.
