“Gears of War” was considered by many to be one of the best Xbox 360 shooters ever released, with the “Halo” series also being a contender for that title. While there hasn’t been a new “Gears of War” game since the third installment, it appears that players will be able to relive the adventures of Marcus Fenix, as Microsoft and Black Tusk are reportedly working on a “Gears of War” HD remaster.

According to a report from Polygon, the “Gears of War” HD Collection will feature improved visuals from the original Xbox 360 version and reworked cutscenes from animation studio Plastic Wax. This re-release will apparently run at 60 frames per second, making the game’s visuals on par with the “Call of Duty” games from Activision.

The rumours for the “Gears of War” remaster have been running rampant for quite a while now. Apparently, many believed that Microsoft would release the “Gears of War” trilogy on Xbox One and dub it as the “Marcus Fenix Collection,” similar to how the “Halo” collection was re-released as “Halo: The Master Chief Collection.”

An article from Gamespot stated that Microsoft and Black Tusk wouldn’t be just be bringing the game by themselves as the companies may have also enlisted the help of independent UK-based game studio Splash Damage. The indie game company has worked on various multiplayer shooters before like “Brink” and “Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.”

In 2014, Microsoft acquired the “Gears of War” franchise from Epic Games and has tasked Black Tusk to make the newest iteration of the popular shooter. The company has also done this with the popular “Halo” series, as they acquired the shooter from Bungie, who have released “Destiny” since then and have given the series to 343.

For those unaware, “Gears of War” was a third-person shooter that made cover-based shooting very popular, while also utilizing the over-the-shoulder camera that originally started with “Resident Evil 4” from Capcom. The game featured protagonist Marcus Fenix and his friend Dominic “Dom” Santiago as they lead Delta Team, while also taking on the deadly alien menace known as the Locust.

Microsoft has yet to confirm that they’re working on a “Gears of War” remaster and have refused to comment on questions about it. No release date has been confirmed for the “Gears of War” HD collection or the new “Gears of War” game from Black Tusk.
