After successfully serving a straight four-year term as Ireland's Davis Cup captain, Garry Cahill finally decided to step down and relinquish his throne. Although Cahill's four years of success in the Davis Cup serving as a captain is something that he is very proud about, his decision to step down takes effect immediately. However, he will still continue to serve his role as Performance Director of Tennis Ireland.

Four years in a row of success for being a Davis Cup captain, at the same time performing efficiently as a Performance Director for Tennis Ireland since 200 is something one can truly brag about.

RTE Sports has caught Cahill saying that he has been all throughout proud of his time spent as Davis Cup captain. In that chance of RTE Sports with Cahill, the latter has expressed his gratitude to the players as well as the Board of Tennis Ireland for their undying support of his captainship. Cahill further confidently said that he truly has faith on the team's ability to beat Belarus this coming March and wished everyone the best of luck for all their preparations and training.

Among the things to be excited about this coming March is that Ireland is about to face Belarus in the Euro-Africa Group II tier competition - a competition division which is several tiers below the World Group level. Having been a part of Ireland for the last four years and its Performing Director since 2004, Cahill remains proud as he was more than confident of Ireland's winning come March.

In line with his immediate turnover of his captainship, Tennis Ireland is bound to appoint Cahill's successor within the next two weeks. This is to ensure everyone in the team complete and adequate time to prepare for yet the most exciting face-off against Belarus come March. During the interim, Gary Cahill will continue to serve a full-time role in the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy at DCU.
