With the invasion of the White Walkers, there is one story that has been neglected; but that will change in “Game of Thrones” season 8. Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) Ghost has been missing in action for a long time, but the direwolf will be back next year, and it will not be just a cameo appearance.

Special Effects Supervisor Joe Bauer told HuffingtonPost in a recent interview that Ghost will not only show up in the next season, but he will also get a fair share of the screen time. Bauer also added that the direwolf will do some “pretty cool things” on the show.

There may have been a good reason why the direwolves storyline has been largely missing in season 7. Bauer pointed out just how difficult it is to film these scenes. The producers use regular wolves on the show, and then use special effects to make them appear larger on screen during the post production phase.

Real wolves behave in a certain way, Bauer explained, and this makes the filming of the scenes rather challenging. This appears to be the reason why direwolves are not as integral to the story in the TV series when compared to the books.

The two important direwolves that remain on the show are Ghost and Nymeria, and they both may play an important role in the coming wars. Nymeria in particular has grown over the years, and she has been leading a pack of wolves.

Meanwhile, cast member Ian Glen (Jorah Mormont) shared some insights about what the fans can expect to see in season 8. In an interview with Express, the actor said that the fans can expect some “monumental” scenes.

“Game of Thrones” season 8 is set to premiere some time in 2019. The producers are yet to announce an exact release date.
