The big meeting between Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) finally happened in “Game of Thrones” season 7. But unlike in the books, where readers get better insight of what the characters think, viewers could only guess at what the two characters were thinking about each other in the show.

The producers of the TV series have appeared in a new video to explain the state of mind of both these characters. The following article contains minor spoilers from the episodes that have already aired.

In the video released online (see below) co-executive producer D.B. Weiss said that the meeting between Daenerys and Jon Snow was exciting to watch on set, which he said was a “notoriously boring place. The producers expected that the excitement would carry over to TV screens.

Dany and Jon had an interesting exchange in the throne room built by Aegon Targaryen. The King in the North doesn’t have a lot of insight about what Daenerys has been through. To him, the producers revealed, she is just a “rich girl with a fancy name, sitting on a big chair, with a fancy dress on; proclaiming herself as the queen of the world.” For this reason, he doesn’t respect her the way the Mother of Dragons has been used to.

The two characters have different interests. Jon Snow wants to save humanity from the White Walkers and their Army of the Dead, while Daenerys is only interested in taking the Iron Throne; she doesn’t believe in tales from the North.

Daenerys feels Jon Snow is “some unwashed barbarian from the North.” To add to that, he is a “bast—d.” Yet he calls himself a “king.” The only problem with this assessment of the Mother of Dragons is that she hasn’t seen what he has seen. If she had, she would be looking at him “very, very differently,” the producers said.
