The bittersweet victory in episode 9 of “Game of Thrones” Season 6 may have had some unintended consequences. Kit Harington teased that “a monster has risen” in Jon Snow after the battle.

[Spoiler alert]

War can be a traumatising experience. While Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is not new to battles, the recent fight may have changed him. He saw the death of his beloved brother, who he had not seen for years. He nearly lost the battle and his life too.

Towards the end of the episode, Jon has a chance to kill Ramsay (Iwan Rheon), but doesn’t. He keeps punching his enemy till his face is full of blood. In a new video released online, director Miguel Sapochnik said that they filmed this scene for 10 hours.

“The only direction I gave to Kit was – he’s not human anymore. He doesn’t feel any sympathy, empathy for this guy,” Sapochnik said. Harington said that this is what has changed in his character in “Game of Thrones” Season 6.

“A monster has risen in him a bit, which I think should be unsettling for the viewers,” Harington said. Even though the character was filled with rage and wanted to kill Ramsay, he stopped when he looked at his sister. He leaves Ramsay to Sansa (Sophie Turner), because if anyone has the right to kill him, it’s her.

Has the “Battle of Bastards” changed the righteous nature of Jon Snow? His father was killed because he didn’t know how to play the game, and he stuck to honour till the very end. Jon Snow nearly lost his life for this very same notion of honour.

In the video Rheon reveals that his character was betting on Jon Snow doing “something stupid and honourable.” Ramsay was right, and his enemy fell for his trick. The battle may have been won, but the war continues in “Game of Thrones” Season 6.
