Edmure Tully has not been seen since the Red Wedding, and now he returns in “Game of Thrones” Season 6 as a “pawn” in the great political game of Westeros. In a recent interview, cast member Tobias Menzies talked about his character and what to expect next as the season progresses.

[Spoiler alert]

Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies) has been held as a prisoner by the Freys after the infamous Red Wedding, in which most of the Stark army was wiped out. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Menzies said that his character was only “maltreated” by his enemies, but was not underfed.

He teased that the Freys would now use his character as bait to reclaim Riverrun. The Freys were given Riverrun by the Lannister in return for their betrayal of the Starks. However, Brynden ‘Blackfish’ Tully escaped the massacre and has taken back his ancestral homeland.

The Freys will now attempt to take back the castle from the Blackfish in the future episodes of “Game of Thrones” Season 6. But, the Freys will not be alone in the siege of the castle, a Lannister army will be joining them and at the head of the army will be Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).

In the recently aired episode, Cersei (Lena Headey) suggested Jaime leave King’s Landing to escape from the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce). There is considerable threat to his life after the King joined the Faith in a new alliance.

Menzies has now confirmed that Jaime will “get involved” with the fight for Riverrun. Edmure will also have a difficult choice and he has to choose whether or not he should betray his family. The Freys will use him like a “pawn” to get back the castle.

Episode 7 of “Game of Thrones” Season 6 is titled “The Broken Man.” According to the official synopsis of the episode, High Sparrow will set his eyes on another target and Jaime will confront a “hero.”
