Executive producers and screen writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have confirmed in a new report that they have begun writing the episodes for “Game of Thrones” Season 6. They said that the TV series will diverge from the books in the next season.

The current season of the show has already begun to diverge from the books. Sansa Stark and Petyr Baelish are still at the Vale in the books, while the show takes them to different cities in Westeros. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss spoke to Variety about the journey so far and where they are headed.

“We’ve just started writing episodes for season six. I think we’re heading into the home stretch,” David Benioff said. The executive producers explained that they would be wrapping up the show soon, even though the studio and the fans may want them to keep going.

There may be changes to the storyline, as the show and the books race towards the end of the story. George R. R. Martin is attempting to complete the next book before the release of “Game of Thrones” Season 6 and is also in touch with the executive producers of the show.

“We’ve had a lot of conversations with George, and he makes a lot of stuff up as he’s writing it,” David Benioff said. He also added that not only will the events in the TV series and books vary but the ending the author has planned in the books may not be the same in the TV series.

Benioff pointed out that the author has an idea about how the books will end, but it doesn’t mean that when he actually writes the next few books he will still have the same idea about the ending. The executive producers already know how the TV series is going to end and D.B. Weiss used the metaphor of looking at a mountain at the horizon and trying to get there, to explain the process of writing for the show.

As the executive producers prepare to write the script for the highly popular show, some people are already angling to try and be a part of the show. According to a report by Metro, popular musician Ed Sheeran has already expressed his interest in being a part of “Game of Thrones” Season 6.

Ed Sheeran was supposed to be a part of the TV series a few years ago, but his music commitments are said to have prevented him from accepting a role. But, this year the musician is said to be free and he said in the report that he would “hound” the producers for a role in “Game of Thrones” Season 6. According to the report, popular cast members Maisie Williams and Kit Harington are close friends of the musician.
