Original air date on HBO: June 26, 2016

Cersei Lannister has been left in a tight situation and she does not play well when trapped into a corner. It seems she will be using wildfire to get out of it.
Spoiler alert! This article contains “Game of Thrones ”(GOT) spoilers. Continue reading if you would like to know what happens next before the airing of the season finale.
Season 6 of GOT featured Cersei’s fall from power and her fight against the High Sparrow. After being promised the option for trial by combat, all her hopes vanished when her son, King Tommen, declared that the said medium of trial is now outdated and shall be forbidden.
However, Cersei is known to always have plans and aces up her sleeve. It seems that she and Qyburn have been concocting a plan. Speculations say that this plan may involve the use of wildfire.
In the episode “Blood of My Blood,” Bran, who is known to have powers of vision, saw an interesting scene that may have something to do with the season finale. The sequence of the visions showed the Mad King Aerys shouting “Burn them all!” There were also shots involving green flames, which long time viewers of the show would know as wildfire. It was also shown that acolytes were stashing these wildfire concoctions into clay jars and pots someplace underground.
Looking back, the Mad King, Daenerys Targaryen’s father, made his alchemists create massive amounts of this weapon when Robert started the rebellion. It was said that he was going to use it to burn the city down before Robert can take over. However, he was killed by Jaime Lannister before the plan’s execution. The stash of wildfire was rumoured to be all over the city’s underground passages.
Given the premise that Aerys was not able to use the wildfire, it is reasonable to say that Bran’s vision of a corridor igniting wildfire flames was not of the past, but of something that will be happening in the future, IGN reports. More so, Season 2 showcased Cersei working with a pyromancer, Hallyne, to create wildfire.
During Season 6’s eighth episode, it was seen that Qyburn and Cersei were talking about a certain rumour that was recently confirmed by the former. It is speculated that this rumour they were talking about is the presence of the wildfire in the city’s underground passages. Another hint is when Jaime described her to be the kind of mother that would burn cities to ashes just to protect her children, Romper shares.
During the last episode, titled “Battle of the Bastards,” the storylines were themed on regaining control. It was seen that the Starks have regained control of Winterfell. Daenerys also regained control over Mereen. What is left now is whether the storyline in King’s Landing will also follow the same theme by putting Cersei back into power.
The Season 6 finale for “Game of Thrones” airs on June 26 on HBO. It will also air on Foxtel in Australia.
