Good news for “Game of Thrones” fans: George RR Martin has finished writing “Winds of Winter.” At least that's what Season 6 director Jack Bender said via a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything session. He is one of several directors that have signed on for Season 6 of the much-loved HBO series.

According to a report by Express, Bender gave a “definitive ‘Yes’” when he was asked by fans if he had read an advance copy of “Winds of Winter.” The book is the sixth instalment of the book series entitled “A Song of Ice and Fire,” written by George RR Martin. The hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” is based on the books and is named after the first book.

Even though Bender’s reply was quite solid, popular “Game of Thrones” fan site Watchers on the Wall claims that the director could possibly be mistaken. A report on the same story read: “A very reliable WotW source has confirmed to us that Bender hasn’t seen an advanced copy/draft of The Winds of Winter, and must have confused it with the season 6 outline when answering the question.”

It is no secret that Martin has been under pressure to finish the sixth instalment of the book series. Many fans have read all five published books in the series. At the end of the show’s 5th season which aired this spring, the TV show had pretty much caught up with the books. Save for a few departures in the storyline, book readers and those who have been watching only the show are pretty much on level ground.

Martin has since declared that he will skip writing any episodes for season 6 of the show so that he could concentrate on finishing the novel. However, with filming set to begin this month, Martin and the show’s creators have already been in close coordination about the story outline. This is what Bender reportedly read.

According to the Independent, Bender will be at the helm for episodes 5 and 6 of the upcoming season. Other directors who will be involved are Jeremy Podeswa, Daniel Sackheim, Mark Mylod and Miguel Sapochnik. Each director will be in charge of two consecutive episodes.

Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” is expected to start airing in April 2016. A release date for “Winds of Winter” has not yet been announced.
