The fourth episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 5 had references to many characters who are dead. The cliffhanger ending of the episode has the fans excited to see what happens next in the series, especially since the show appears to be diverging from the books on which it is based on. [Spoiler alert]

Sansa Stark returned to Winterfell in “Game of Thrones” Season 5. She visited the crypt where her ancestors lay buried and picked up an exotic feather that lay near the grave of her aunt Lyanna. The creators of the show explained where the fans may have seen the feather previously, in a report that was posted on the official website MakingGameofThrones.

Fans of the franchise may remember that the very first season of “Game of Thrones” featured a scene where the then king Robert Baratheon visited the crypt at Winterfell and lay an exotic bird feather at the grave of Lyanna, who he loved dearly. David Benioff explained that the feather was still there when Sansa arrived, as no one had really been down there to clean the place.

"We thought it would be kind of a great thing to have Sansa wondering about it," said executive producer and co-creator of the show D. B. Weiss. Sansa and Petyr Baelish also spoke about Lyanna and Rhaegar in this scene. Fans of the franchise who are looking to confirm the theory that Jon is Lyanna and Rhaegar’s son may have noted the silence of Petyr when Sansa spoke about the past events.

Another report by MakingGameofThrones recounts all the dead characters that were referenced in the fourth episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 5. Apart from Robert Baratheon and Rhaegar Targaryen, there were references to Oberyn Martel and Ygritte in the episode.

The Sand Sisters were seen wanting to go to war over the death of Oberyn Martell and Obara executed a spear maneuver, while remembering what her father taught her. The sisters, with the help of Ellaria, are preparing to make their move in defiance to the order of Prince Doran.

Ygritti was referenced in “Game of Thrones” Season 5 episode 4, when the Red Priestess Melisandre said “you know nothing Jon Snow,” a dialogue that Ygritti was famous for saying. More deaths are expected in the future episodes of the show and at the moment the lives of Grey Worm and Barristan hang in the balance.
