Eugene Simon spoke about the transformation of his character in “Game of Thrones” Season 5 in a recent interview. The actor plays the role of Lancel Lannister in the TV series. [Spoiler alert]

The rise of the Faith Militants in the recently aired episode of “Game of Thrones” has been described as a “communist uprising” by Eugene Simon. The actor spoke to HollywoodReporter about the religious organisation and what it means for the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.

The members of the Faith Militants are mostly poor migrants to the city. It was Cersei Lannister who armed them with the intention of using them against her enemies. Eugene Simon said that while he was talking to director Mark Mylod, they both agreed that the rise of the Faith Militants was like a “communist uprising.” Mark is the director of episode 3 and 4 of “Game of Thrones” Season 5.

Describing the rise of the religious organisation as a “frightening prospect,” Eugene Simon explained that the Faith Militants have “no regard for the status quo or authority.” They believe they are “divinely driven” and are answerable to a being that is “higher than any sort of moral authority.”

Lancel Lannister became one of the Faith Militants in “Game of Thrones” Season 5. Answering a question about the carving of the symbol of the Faith of the Seven on his forehead, Eugene Simon said that the act represented a “lifelong commitment” to the sect. The actor also added that the newly acquired military powers of the religious sect will not be good for “anyone in the Seven Kingdoms.”

Unlike the other members of the Faith Militants, who have chosen to become members to “improve their station,” Lancel is “far more ideological” and a “believer in the cause,” Eugene Simon said. The actor also revealed that Lancel joined the sect after a “great deal of pain” and his objective of joining is a “sincere” but “twisted” wish to kill the people who have caused him pain in the past.

Eugene Simon also teased that the “Walk of Shame” that High Septon had to go through in “Game of Thrones” Season 5 is “only the beginning.” The incident only shows “how far they are willing to go,” a prospect the actor describes as “most frightening.” The actor did not elaborate on the possibility of more characters going through the Walk of Shame. “I can’t give away that information,” he said.
