When “Marvel Contest of Champions” came out, it seemed like it was easy to guess who the main villain was as both Thanos and The Collector are powerhouses in their own right. However, Hulk is the strongest one there is, so it should come as no surprise that the main villain of “Contest of Champions” has been revealed as Maestro, the Hulk from “Future Imperfect.”

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that it was comic writer Sam Humphries who came up with the idea to bring Maestro to the game, as a way to give fans of the game and the various Marvel comics a pleasant reveal. Bill Rosemann, the director of Marvel games, stated that they needed a villain who could trump the collector and maybe even go one in one with Thanos himself.

This character debuted in Marvel comics back in 1992 in a mini series called “Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect.” Peter David, who had a lengthy comic book run with The Hulk, wrote the two issue series. George Perez who has also drawn other big books for Marvel and DC drew the two-issue story.

Maestro comes with a new look that differs from the character design artist George Perez gave him. He comes with various weapons, including the legendary shield of Captain America and a hammer, though it is not clear if it is Thor’s weapon Mjolnir or the hammer Ronan the Accuser always uses. He also has some spiffy looking arnour, which looks like a mixture between Iron Man’s suit and the armour that the Ultimate version of Captain marvel wears.

It has also been revealed by Comic Book Resources that Maestro would also be returning to the world of comics in a new “Future Imperfect” series tied in to the upcoming “Secret Wars” event Marvel has been hyping up as of late. Peter David will be returning to the book as a writer and will be joined by controversial comic book artist Greg Land.

“Marvel Contest of Champions” is available now for iOS and Android devices. The new “Future Imperfect” story by Peter David and Greg Land will be available sometime in June and will be part of the grand “Secret Wars” event.
