Few turn-based strategy games have been as popular as the “Fire Emblem” series from Nintendo. Created by the mind of Kaga Shozou, “Fire Emblem” had been around since the early 90’s and has risen to prominence, to the point that some of the game’s characters appeared in various “Super Smash Bros” games. Now, Shozou is planning a new tactical RPG and stated that it would be free once it is finished.

The announcement of the new Kaga Shozou RPG was made on the creator’s official blog, where he stated that he and a number of his acquaintances would work on the currently unnamed project. Shouzou also mentioned the software his team is using in the game is called SRPG Studio, which can be downloaded by numerous programmers, as long as they can understand Japanese.

Right now, the team consists of 10 members, whom Shozou has called a mixture of acquaintances and professional developers, showing that this mysterious game might be in good hands. He also teases that a “wonderful artist” might join the team in the near future, though who this supposed artist is, isn’t known yet.

That being said, the team is in need of some help if they want to make the game as good as it can be. According to a report from Siliconera, the team is currently in need of Unit Chips, Effect Material, Map Chips, Battle Animation Material and various sound related effects.

Shouzou has also clarified that if anyone has those materials and would want to work on the mysterious Shozou project with him, the developer would gladly work with them. Until the developer gets more of these missing parts, it seems that the mysterious Shozou project will take longer to come out.

Many are familiar with the work of Kaga Shozou, through some of the earlier “Fire Emblem” games, though he eventually left Nintendo and “Fire Emblem” developer Intelligent Systems. He went on to release a game called “Tear Ring Saga,” which caused some controversy, after Nintendo stated that it was too much like “Fire Emblem.” Eventually it was released in Japan, though it’s not sure if this new project is heading towards a worldwide release.
