Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes wants a transfer to the English Premier League when the winter transfer window opens in January, his agent has claimed.

Valdes has had a horrid time in Manchester ever since his move as a free agent after leaving Barcelona. He was always destined to be second to David De Gea in the pecking order at United, but then fell out with manager Louis van Gaal towards the end of last season, with the latter claiming that Valdes had refused to play for the U-21 squad.

He has not played for the club since and reportedly does not even train with the first-team anymore. He was linked with an exit from the club earlier in the summer, but a move away failed to materialise as United were particularly keen on not selling him to any of their direct rivals.

United have since gone on to sign Argentinean No.1 Sergio Romero as well on a free transfer after his contract with Lazio expired. They also have capable youngster Sam Johnstone on their books, so they are unlike to miss Valdes too much if he does leave.

Arsenal were linked with the goalkeeper, as were Liverpool. Arsenal have since signed Petr Cech from Chelsea, and United would definitely want to strengthen main rivals Liverpool. Valdes’s contract with United runs out next summer so he is free to talk to clubs abroad and sign a pre-contract in the January transfer window.

"We are relying on Manchester United letting Victor go. The Premier League is very attractive and Valdes want to stay because he has adapted perfectly to England, but we are not closing the door to any options. There are still two months until the transfer window opens and there is nothing concrete, but the intention is to leave Manchester United,” Valdes’s agent Gines Carvajal told the Evening Standard.
